CertiPUR-US® Certified Foam in Every FoamOh Castle
Yes, FoamOh castles use CertiPUR-US® certified foam. That means the foam inside every castle has been tested by independent labs against the CertiPUR-US program's criteria for content, emissions and durability. It is the same type of foam used in upholstered sofas, made in the USA, firm enough for climbing and building, and it passes California's TB 117-2013 flammability standard without flame-retardant chemicals.

What CertiPUR-US® checks
The program looks at the flexible polyurethane foam itself. Here is what it covers, in plain language.
| What is checked | What it means | The standard |
|---|---|---|
| Formaldehyde | A chemical some foams could release into the air | Made without formaldehyde |
| Ozone depleters | Chemicals that damage the ozone layer | Made without ozone depleters |
| Phthalates | Chemicals used to soften some plastics | Made without prohibited phthalates (those regulated by the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission) |
| Heavy metals | Metals such as mercury and lead | Made without mercury, lead and other heavy metals |
| VOC emissions | Volatile organic compounds, gases that can be released into indoor air | Low emission, with VOCs below 0.5 parts per million |
| Flame retardants and other chemicals of concern | Chemicals classified as carcinogens, mutagens or reproductive toxins | Screened for relevant chemicals, including flame retardants, classified as harmful to human health |
| Durability | How well the foam performs over time | Meets the program's durability standards |

What the certification covers, and what it does not
CertiPUR-US® is about the foam. We think it is just as useful to know where it stops.
Covered by CertiPUR-US®
- The flexible polyurethane foam inside the product
- Specific content criteria (formaldehyde, heavy metals, phthalates and more)
- VOC emissions from the foam
- Durability of the foam
Not covered by CertiPUR-US®
- Cover fabrics and textile dyes
- Zippers, seams and stitching
- Waterproof or stain-resistant treatments on fabrics
- The overall design, stability or safety of the finished product
- Age suitability or how a product should be used
For FoamOh castles: covers are removable microsuede and machine washable, castles are designed for ages 1 and up, for imaginative play and not for sleeping, and children should always be supervised during play.
The foam inside a FoamOh castle
Certification is one part of the story. These are the numbers behind how our castles feel and hold their shape.
Pounds per cubic foot. A useful clue to how well foam holds up over time.
A medium-firm feel: soft to sit on, firm enough to climb and build on.
Passes California's flammability standard without flame-retardant chemicals.
U.S.-made foam, assembled in Tennessee.
Covers that come off and go in the wash
The certification covers the foam. The covers are where snack time, art projects and muddy socks end up, so we made them easy to clean.
How to wash FoamOh covers
- Zip the covers closed.
- Machine wash cold with a mild detergent and other FoamOh covers of the same color.
- Hang dry. If using a dryer, use low or no heat.
Need a fresh set?
Replacement covers are available for the FoamOh Super Castle Play Sofa, the Ramp, the Steps and the Circle, so a castle can get a new look without replacing the foam.
